NetSmart is a dynamic and rapidly growing Internet company founded in 1996, based in Athens, Hellas. NetSmart is developing Internet-based products, solutions and services and operates its own service provision centre hosting applications and supporting Internet-based services for the Greek, European and global market.
Technological Focus & Technical Expertise: NetSmart has developed extensive in-house expertise in Web-based application development on J2EE and open-source platforms (PHP, JBoss, Tomcat, Linux). As a result, NetSmart has supported customers and third-party service providers launch a number of content-specific and sector-specific portal, extranet and intranet services. The main application fields of these technologies, where NetSmart is particularly active, include healthcare, eGovernment, eCommerce and collaborative working. NetSmart is now oriented towards the development of solutions to be integrated in its existing and upcoming products and services, focusing on Mobile Office applications, Location-Based Services, biometrics for authentication to remote, local and mobile applications over fixed and mobile handsets. NetSmart is also active in the area of Web Services for front-end or back-end integration of disparate systems and applications, distributed/federated Identity Services and multi-purpose, multi-role, multi-function portals for service provisioning. Examples of large-scale commercial projects include Vodafone Live! in Greece, and Portal setup, maintenance and integration/consolidation of applications (including Single Sign-on capability) for the Athens International Airport.
Research & Development: NetSmart is very active in Information Society Technologies (IST) and related projects funded by the European Commission. The company is involved in the GUIDE project, an EU-wide initiative to define an Open Architecture for Identity Management for interoperable, cross-border eGovernment applications, as well as in ASK-IT (services to mobility impaired people by integrated ambient intelligence environments), the HUMABIO Integrated Project, HUMABIO (Identity Management, Biometrics and Security), EFFORT (Smart organizations and Digital Ecosystems facilitating dynamic clustering of SMEs), INTERLIFE (interactive continuous monitoring of vital signs parameters – an eTen project).
