University of Pisa

University of Pisa is represented by the Interdepartmental Research Center "E. Piaggio" and the Department of Neuroscience. The Interdepartmental Research Center "E. Piaggio" is a research Center of the University of Pisa dedicated to Bioengineering and Robotics. Mission of the Centre is to perform research work and form research personnel for the study, design and exploitation of automation and biomedical devices. The main research areas of our Center include materials engineering (piezoresistives, piezoelectric polymer, polyelectrolyte gel, conducting polymer), and bioengineering: “intelligent" materials and systems for sensing and actuation. Among the main fields of research in Bioengineering at the Centre are portable and wearable health monitoring systems and biomimetic robots mimicking the biological behaviour by means of dedicated materials and structures, likewise control strategy, algorithms and artificial neural networks.

The Department of Neuroscience of the University of Pisa covers a broad spectrum of neuroscience research from clinical experimental studies. Specific attention is focused on neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, as well as cerebrovascular and inflammatory diseases, in elderly and disable patients.

Main function / role in OASIS:

UNIPI will contribute in the design, development and integration of multisensorial platforms in Activity Coach (WP2.3), leading the A2.3.3 Rehabilitation support system, in Brain and Skills Trainer (WP2.4), in Health Monitoring (WP2.6), in Personal Mobility (WP3.4) and in Smart Workplaces Applications (WP3.5), leading the biometric authentication section in A3.5.2, as well as in the evaluation of Training (WP5.2).
